The partner visa application, Subclass 820 is a program that allows de-facto partners or spouse of an Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen live in Australia temporary. It is the initial step towards a permanent Partner Visa, Subclass 801.
Both applications 820/801 are lodged at the same time, however, the immigration’s office considers the temporary visa application first. If granted the holder will hold the temporary visa, Subclass 820, and will be eligible to continue their journey towards the permanent application, Subclass 801, – two years following the lodgement of both applications.
The applicant must be onshore, in Australia, at time of the lodgement.
